Ivy Station’s strategic location next to Metro’s E Line Culver City station makes it a transformative mixed-use development that reimagines the urban experience, connecting transit, work, community and leisure. EGG Office collaborated with a large team of consultants, the Cities of Culver City and Los Angeles, and Metro to deliver a comprehensive signage and wayfinding system for this large, complex site. With over half a million square feet located in two different municipalities, Ivy Station includes retail, a stand-alone 5-story office building, a 200-unit residential building and The Shay, a 148-room boutique hotel.

To brand and unify the site, EGG Office created a graphic language incorporating curvy geometry and connecting line-work graphics as a nod to modern transit as well as the steam-powered past with the Independence Railroad. The linework is woven into the project identification signage and shows up as the bespoke IVY identifier, gracing vehicular and pedestrian wayfinding, and greeting Metro riders. Colorful experiential graphics reminiscent of subway maps highlight parking areas. Upper Ivy Residential borrows the visual language of the site for interior graphics, while the hotel signage is tailored to a sophisticated boutique experience, showcasing brass accents with residential materials such as wood and leather.

EGG also worked closely with the City of Culver City Planning Department and representatives of multiple agencies on a detailed master sign program (MSP) for Ivy Station. The MSP and experiential graphics program sets new standards for the site as well as promotes Ivy Station as a new gateway to downtown Culver City, whether arriving by foot, car, bicycle, light rail, or bus.
