As part of the comprehensive modernization of Los Angeles International Airport’s (LAX) Central Terminal Area (CTA), a key focus of the renovation effort was the transformation of the visual and functional identity of the airport’s signage—beginning with one of its most iconic touchpoints, the Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT). Serving as the primary gateway for millions of international passengers arriving in Los Angeles each year, TBIT required a signage solution that not only reflected the global stature of the airport but also provided clear, intuitive wayfinding for travelers from around the world.

Our team led the enhancement of the entrance canopy signage at TBIT, reimagining this critical first impression to embody both functionality and architectural elegance. We designed and implemented prominent new identification (ID) signage placed atop the curbside canopy, significantly improving visibility and legibility from both vehicular and pedestrian approaches. The modernized signage serves as a bold visual landmark, establishing a strong sense of place upon arrival.

In addition to the canopy enhancements, we developed a suite of digital airline ID signs that provide real-time, dynamic information for departing flights, streamlining the passenger drop-off process and reducing confusion at curbside check-in areas. These digital elements were carefully integrated into the overall aesthetic of the terminal to ensure consistency in form and function.

Beyond TBIT, our scope extended to updating ID signage at all domestic terminals within the CTA loop. This included the replacement of aging signs with newly designed elements that align with the overall architectural language of the renovation. The result is a cohesive, visually unified terminal area that improves passenger navigation while elevating the airport’s contemporary image.

These design standards, born from our work on the CTA renovation, have since been adopted as the official template for all future terminal signage upgrades at LAX. By establishing a modern, consistent, and passenger-centric signage system, we’ve helped redefine the airport experience and reinforced LAX’s position as a world-class international hub.
